I started out as an interior designer and still tend to think like one. I joke about "Suzy artist" vs "Suzy designer" and frequently what they like and do are different.
Later in life I got interested in painting and have been doing that seriously for quite a while. I work from my own photographs and am always drawn to subjects that do interesting things in sunlight. I started with still lives from nature then moved on to larger close-up flowers and now cactus since I have moved to San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico.
I have a lot of glass pieces that I collected when doing the still lives. I liked what they did in the light. So they are now around my house and as light hits them I find myself grabbing my camera. It started a couple of years ago with still lives then I started going closer and getting into the reflections and shadows and what happened when one affected the color of another.
It has seriously grown as I collect more pieces, use more pieces and get closer and closer. They are now totally abstract which appeals to "Suzy designer." They work well in interiors, come in many colors and tend to also work in groupings since ones taken at the same time tend to have a lot in common.
I am really enjoying the ser...
I have a bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning at the University of Cincinnati
I studied Impressionist painting at the Art Students League in New York City.
After that I left NYC to have more space to paint. I lived in CT which is home to American Impressionism. I was able to take many interesting classes and meet many like-minded artists while studying and practicing my skills I took bits and pieces from various things and developed my own painting style.
The photography just sort of happened since I do it for the painting. I still do not consider myself to be a "Photographer." but I do think I can spot a good image and capture it. Suzy designer" gets really excited about them and I tend to trust her judgment.
The photography is new. I just got into it and made my first prints in early 2020. So no exhibits yet. I am starting online since I can do it from home.
I do plan to do prints and show them. Since the subject is glass with its transparency and reflections I am experimenting with printing. I started with glass and it can be very interesting. Frosted glass is lovely for the softer images- as is vellum.
The ones here will be on what is available since I am so far from the UK that shipping is a real issue. I imagine something specially printed and shipped could be arranged through Saatchi.
