About Eric Wagoner
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Eric graduated from Michigan State University. Pursuing specialized studies at UCLA and University of Houston, he began painting oils and watercolors in 1976. In the late 70's he studied stained glass art at Bolton's, in Houston. During the 1980's he owned an art gallery in Houston, while exhibiting paintings nationally. In the 2000's, he changed his focus from Kandinsky-like paintings to the influences of Hofmann, Richter, Appel, Kirkeby,Vedova, Francis and Lanyon. He calls his work the 4-F's, free form-free flow art. My philosophy: I start with what style I want to paint and that determines how I stroke. Recent years, mostly knife. I also determine what colors I would like to start with. From there, its free flow-free form painting. Attacking the canvas with gusto. That is where I go and what I get. Experience is at hand. There are many ways to overcome soup and rain. Set your inhibitions aside from the start and especially when painting. Be unafraid. Paint obnoxiously. Paint the direction it takes you. Trust your skill at whatever level. You are painting for yourself. If not, be a mechanic, be happy.
