Paper and drawing are my passions. Not drawings upon paper, but lines themselves being made of paper: see-through structures made up of lines in space, allowing light to filter through and shadows to emerge.
Line drawing is always associated with something slender and scratched on paper. How then to make lines consisting of paper, drawings without support that can hold themselves up and at the same time retain the freshness of a line sketched on paper? These are the questions I made myself during the course of my work, while seeking new paths to extend the possibilities of drawing into the third dimension.
When I work with language and use written texts as visual objects, what interests me is the duality that is created when the actual words are transformed into paper. In a way, the holes created between the letters become significant, reflecting not only the presence of a support no longer visible but also other nuances of communication, such as pauses and silences.
I work within the concept of exile. I explore the confrontation with new cultures and dialects, of how a foreigner confronts this unfamiliar communication, how they create connections in a new world where there is a lack of belonging. Who are they outside of ...
