Originally from Kyrgyzstan, Dasha Shkurpela lives in New York and works in painting, drawing and sculpture. She has exhibited her work internationally since 1995. Twice she was a finalist in the Miami University National Young Sculptors Competition for the William and Dorothy Yeck Award and received the George Sugarman grant in sculpture. Her artwork has been published in periodicals Studio Visit and Chicago Art Journal and catalogues Fine Arts of Kyrgyzstan, Moscow: Galart, 2013, and Fine Arts in Kyrgyzstan, AUB, 2007. Over 200 of Dasha’s works can be seen her website
Her works are in private collections in Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, the United States; in the collections of Central European University, Budapest, Hungary, and American University in Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Dasha writes arts criticism and explores past and present of the former Soviet space through looking at objects that remained. Her essays have been published in Shirkah - The Magazine of Islamic Finance, Economics and Culture, Switzerland, Fiction Advocate, American Society of Clinical Oncology Post, and Visible Ink 2017 Anthology. She is shortlisted for the Notting Hill Editions essay prize 2017.
