Alvaro Gomez-Pantoja

My work focuses on the representation of the human being in his daily life and diversity from a gloomy and pessimistic perspective, exalting and deforming the physical characteristics that provoke the exaggerated expression of characters. Influenced by German expressionism and the new objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit), I try to generate images that move the human sensibility.

Using contemporary techniques and materials, I create works where the irregularity of forms, the solid line and ornate textures take center stage. The contrasts, the saturated colors and an unreal chiaroscuro are some of the formal characteristics of my work.

Human expression, portraits, family, traditional scenes, war or cinema are some of the most recurring themes.
