I've been painting since I was a child but have only recently given up on the rules and painted with abandon. It's been a very liberating experience and the results are much freer and without the tightness that can come when restricted by getting everything technically 'right'.

I tend to paint what I fancy and I use colours according to my mood. Sometimes I take inspiration from images that flash into my mind when listening to music or when noticing particular smells.

More often than not, what I start out with is nothing like what I end up with! I guess that falls into the category of intuitive painting. It has a mind of its own!

Sometimes I use brushes, sometimes I use a palette knife but often I use my hands and odd implements I find lying around my house. Mostly a mixture of all the above! Thick acrylics are my favourite medium but I'll also use pastel and oils if it adds something, and always some gesso.
