Miona Marta Markovic

Miona Marta Marković was born in 1979 in Sombor, northern Serbia. Miona grew up and got her education first in Belgrade (Faculty of Applied Arts) and then in Naples (Accademia Belle Arti di Napoli, MA in Fine Arts) and Rome (Sapienza Università di Roma, Phd in History of Art). She practices painting, graphics, documentary photography, and mixed media. In the most recent phase of her artistic development her visual language can be characterized as a geometric abstraction of soft edges, wherein her absolute priority is not geometric accuracy. The priority of geometric abstraction came gradually in her work; her previous painting phase was dedicated to stylized human figures in the moment of embrace. Her work was exibited in Italy, Serbia, Mexico, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria. Art critics discussed here Embraces series as “a step further from Klimt” (Grubor, 2018), while her color tessellations were compared to Gaudi’s Barcelona (Riccardi, 2007).
