Josée Levesque

Josée Levesque is a Canadian painter from the Basses-Laurentides region in the province of Québec. She creates sculptural oil paintings inspired by nature. Her process is defined by an acute attentiveness to details, essential in rendering the beauty and subtleties of foliage and flowers inhabiting her works. She focuses on textures,
bringing depth to paintings – whereas she folds and unfolds layers of paint using knives to create petals as if they were blossoming from the gesture.
Most of her works offers little to no perspective such as to amplify the immersive impression of observing nature up close. Composition is also kept simple to emphasize the flourish of leaves and flowers.
All of this comes together to bring out this enthralling sensation that flows through us when
we take the time to stop and admire nature in all its lavishness.
