Cordelia Chang

I'm immensely inspired by nature and the energy in all its colours, light and shadow. In turn I seek to capture and celebrate the connection to the inner landscape. I take influences from both traditional Chinese art such as calligraphy and ink painting, and Modernism, which altogether form part of my approach and style in abstraction.

I often feel there’s a seductive pulling power in the energy in all the colours, light and shadow in nature that encourages a pause and invites us to look into the landscape within ourselves. I am trying to capture what such encounter can often evoke in us: a fleeting emotion, a memory, a daydream, an unfamiliar desire, or something we just don’t words for yet. To me these moments of impressions always lead to the inner world and all its complexities and mysteries.

I see my artwork as a journey to seek a freedom that comes from feeling connected to that inner landscape, and all the colours, brushstrokes, and texture in my paintings as an invite to oneself to wander inside.
