David Garber

Born in Pittsburgh, exited the womb in a Steelers hat, Departed 'the Burgh' at 17, toured Europe for a year studying the major high and low points of Western Civilization's, culture. Well aware of Chiang Kai-Shek's response to France's Charles de Gaulle's asking what he thought of France's impressive history of art; "Well, it's a start...", I decided to study Western Art and Architecture. I pursued; painting, print making, environmental design, interactive architecture, computer generated film, virtual reality, augmented reality, lack of reality, media and immersive experiences. Those explorations had a commonality; to allow the participant to experience an altered state of being or expanded awareness, if you will. Moving through a more Eastern, reductive state of exploration and reflection I decided to return to roots and posed the question; can I recreate that experience using a single piece of water color paper and colored inks, while conceptualizing the history of the meditative mandala and employing the organicity of my hand MOC (mit out computer)?
