Art is a game we play against chaos and death. Art can awaken within the soul the wild beast, the gates of hell, or could soothe, could calm the beast and awaken the god within. Such fine minds as Homer, Aristotle, and Dante felt that art has a moral responsibility. Morality, the word itself, leaves a bad impression with many today. By morality, I mean that which is life affirming. That which doesn’t leave us feeling badly later. I mean it as a deeply felt law of the universe- thou shalt not VIOLATE. So, art instructs us. I want to look with humor at all of us. We learn about reality by copying it in an exaggerated way. Can we be better as a race? These paintings obviously owe a debt to the great Weegee.
