I was born in Mexico City, in the neighborhood of San Angel, in 1953. I began my studies in the field of Physics-Mathematics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I attended the painting workshop of Maestro Antonio Ramírez at the San Carlos Academy. I also worked as an assistant in my father's workshop, the painter and sculptor Federico Silva. Later on, I worked as a draftsman and model maker at the office of Architect Agustín Hernández, as well as at the Center for Sculptural Space at UNAM.
I completed my Bachelor's degree in Architecture in 1981 and obtained a Master's degree in Visual Arts at the San Carlos Academy in 1983. Additionally, I was nominated for a doctorate in Urban Architecture in 1985. Through a competitive examination, I was appointed as a permanent professor in the Architecture undergraduate program and the Visual Arts postgraduate program at the San Carlos Academy. For over ten years (1985-1995), I served as the head of the plastic experimentation workshop and coordinator of the Master's program in Urban Art. I also directed the public sculpture project for the visual rehabilitation of the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza in 1993.
My first group exhibition, titled "Nuevas tendencias, (New Tendencies)" took place at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City in 1979, while my latest group exhibition, named "Arte y Matemáticas, (Art and Mathematics)" was held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2017. Furthermore, I had my first solo exhibition, titled "Variedades discretas para la urbe (Discrete Varieties for the Urban Setting)," at the Carrillo Gil Museum in Mexico City in 1981, and my latest solo exhibition, called "El recurso de la escultura (The resource of Sculpture)," at the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in San Luis Potosi in 2018.
