Jan is an artist that currently lives in Austin Texas but her influences are definitely New Mexico as she lived there for over 30 years. The colors, textures, and atmosphere in her paintings can remind you of New Mexico. She has mentored under Fiber artist, Helene Rumpel, to learn her techniques and helped her with commissions. Previous to that she was Phil Lauer's assistant in her cloissone' enameling studio in Minnesota. So Jan has pursued many art mediums through the years but the one that stuck has been the mixed media. "I love the possibilities and experimentation that mixed media offers. Endless inspiration for me on how to approach and work on a piece of art. It is an amazing thing to produce a painting that someone is drawn to and has a deep emotional response to it. Art brings life to people that they may never encounter otherwise. Art is healing on many levels-spiritual, emotional, physical. I feel God’s peace when I do art-it’s like co-creating with Him. My hope is that my art will give a sense of peace and hope to people."
