Demi Kahn (b. 1989, Houston, Texas) is an award-winning sculptural fiber artist with a background in Geology. Using traditional macrame techniques, Kahn combines materials into sweeping three-dimensional forms that explore the tension between strength and softness. She has received an MS in Geology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has taken courses at the Glassell Studio School of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. However, most of her artistic practice is self-taught. The artist has participated in exhibitions at Gallery Diderot, Orquevaux, France; the Lawndale Art Center’s Big Show; and Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Gallery, Houston, TX. In 2020, Kahn was awarded the Etsy Design Award. In 2022, she received the Denis Diderot Grant and the Emerging Artist grant from the Chateaux Orquevaux Residency Program, and in 2021, she filmed an online class that is available through Domestika. Mixon currently lives and works in Houston, TX.
