Kathalijne Hes

Kathalijne Hes, born in Rotterdam (1970) and living in Breda, the Netherlands, paints in a very diverse way; ranging from figurative, abstract and dramatic to analytical.

"I usually don't have a plan when I start painting, it seems more like the materials guide me on their own path.”

Her works have their own character and, despite being so unique, can be recognized in Hes' style.

The materials she uses are sand, plaster and paint. Together with the warm colors she paints, they create beautiful works.

"The less color you use, the more powerful the color emerges and the more influence its effect has." Hes said.

The colors are strong, natural and rich; they provide more intensity and this, together with the composition and the shapes used, gives the work depth. The works of art are in motion.

Culture, nature and animals are an important source of inspiration for the artist.
"Animals touch me, I have been painting them from an early age: especially owls, sheep, dogs, chickens and fish."

In her recognizable style, Hes continually develops new sides of herself.
