Konrad Petitjean is a Belgian visual artist whose work moves between dream, memory, and myth. Inspired by the surreal atmospheres of Max Ernst, Léon Spilliaert, and the symbolic worlds of Leonora Carrington, his paintings evoke both wonder and introspection.
Working primarily in acrylic, pastel and pencil, Konrad explores themes of attachment, loss, and transformation. Self-portraits and nudes are sometimes also central to his practice, not as mere studies of the body, but as mirrors of the unconscious and gateways to deeper psychological truths. His imagery often emerges from dreams, meditative states, and visionary experiences, informed by non-dualism and psychedelics.
Konrad’s work is also shaped by the psychological insights of Carl Jung and Alice Miller, the spiritual quests of Hermann Hesse and Carlos Castaneda, and the musical atmospheres of David Sylvian, Mark Hollis, Josh Homme, and Nordic jazz. Archetypal frameworks, including tarot (Pamela Colman Smith) and I Ching, guide the symbolic narrative of his paintings.
“My work is a dialogue with the unconscious — an invitation to step into a personal inner journey.”
Self taught.
