Maria Avramova

I am a Bulgarian-born artist with a background in fine arts and animation, blending storytelling, movement, and emotion into each of my paintings. My work is rooted in a desire to explore the inner world—where memory, dreams, and reality meet in vibrant, often surreal landscapes. With bold colors, expressive figures, and poetic symbolism, I seek to capture the invisible connections between people, places, and feelings.

Having studied classical painting in Plovdiv and animation at renowned institutions across Sweden and Denmark, I’ve spent over 20 years working in the fields of illustration, animation, and visual storytelling. This experience has deeply influenced my approach to painting. Each canvas is a frame from an unwritten story, a frozen moment filled with mystery, motion, and emotion.

I’m particularly inspired by themes of longing, transformation, and the surreal aspects of everyday life. My characters often float, reach, or stretch beyond physical boundaries—mirroring the emotional and spiritual states they inhabit. Whether depicting love, memory, or introspection, my goal is always to evoke a feeling first, and let meaning unfold from there.
