Francene Christianson

I paint people and places that remind me of special times in my life. While these moments are transitory, painting lets me create a lasting memento of an otherwise passing view. I look for the universal appeal in everyday moments. To do this, I draw inspiration from old family photos, preserving mid-century images in a modern context.
I am always looking for the stories of a place, and have been lucky enough to experience many different stories. Southern California to New York City, Minnesota to Texas--each place introduced me to new perspectives and diverse communities of artists that drove my work in new, bolder directions. Now, as I return to California, I feel so privileged to bring all these learnings to my landscape of origin.
