Petrus Nelissen

Streetphotography, that is to say documenting ordinary people in their daily life, is my speciality. I am inspired by famous European (I am born in the Netherlands) and American photographers. More than 50 years I amphotographing in different continents, especial latin America, Africa and Europe. 25 Years ago I started painting inspired by Dutch masters as Vermeer, Van Gogh and Mondrian. My paintings move from a little bit abstract to very abstract. Main characteristics are clear shapes and lines and bright colors which makes the paintings transparant, accessible and understandable with humor. The basic values are sincerity and truths.

Formal education: Secondary school, university course on journalism, social and political sciences at the Radboud University of Nijmegen, university course on economic development. Artistically I was guided by some mentors but mostly I am an autodidact, studying masters by visiting expositions, art galleries and museums all over the world.

Solo exhibition in San Jose, Costa Rica, National Theater 1979, Solo exhibition 'Caramba Mexico' in Galeria del Arte in Pachuca and Huasca, Mexico 2019, Participation in exhibitions in royal palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn and Royal Palace Soestdijk in Soest with portrait of Queen Beatrix, participation in Summer Collection of the Art Museum of The Hague in 2013 (Nude Landscape with Bowler Hat) and 2014 (New Minimalism Number 14, Antwerp 2013).
