Critic opinions:
Marta Lock (Italy)
Romanian artist Ioana Ursu is inspired by the atmospheres of Tamara de Lempicka, reinterpreting them according to her own approach to life and existence, thus retaining the decisive chromaticism and the almost edgy stroke both in the representation of faces and in that of the light that therefore appear to sculpt her protagonists and their clothes, but giving them a more expressionist version, symbolist in some canvases, thus softening the gaze and bringing out an interiority and sensitivity that in the artworks of the Art Deco master seemed to be hiding behind the algid and determined approach to a society in which women had yet to gain emancipation and the right to be able to a more central role. Ioana Ursu moves on a timeless dimension because for her it is essential to portray and celebrate women in all their facets, nuances of personality.
