The Poetics of Blurred Edges.
The works of Mykola Janczukow are not merely images, but finely tuned visual poems. In his watercolors, the city dissolves in light and fog, human figures turn into reflections, and details seem to emerge from memory. The artist avoids literalness, offering the viewer not scenes, but sensations—the silence of an evening avenue, the echo of a conversation in a cafe, the polyphony of the inner self.
Mykola employs classical watercolor technique, but reinterprets it in the context of modern perception. His palette is laconic, compositions are built on blurred boundaries and transparency, and the main focus is not the plot, but the state. This is painting on the border of dream, memory, and observation.
Mykola was born in Crimea, Ukraine in 1974, but now lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
My artistic journey, spanning more than ten years of self-directed watercolor exploration, has culminated in a strong understanding of the medium. I've enriched my skills through workshops and online courses with prominent contemporary watercolorists. My work is defined by a fluid, loose aesthetic, predominantly achieved through alla prima techniques.
