I was born and raised in Costa Rica, in a family with a long-standing appreciation for the arts. From a young age, I was surrounded by music, painting, literature, and movement—elements that would go on to define both my creative and professional life.

I graduated as an Industrial Designer from the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR) in 1987, where I received a cultural scholarship. I was also honored with a scholarship from Costa Rica’s National Theater, awarded by then-director Graciela Moreno, which led me to join the Chamber Ballet under the direction of Cristina Gigirey. Working with masters like Gigirey, Patricia Carreras, and Liliana Cubero instilled in me the discipline and reverence that still guide my artistic process.

After more than 30 years working in high-end interior design, I recognized a powerful gap: clients weren’t just seeking beautiful pieces—they longed for art that provoked specific emotions, that changed how a space felt. This insight led me to painting.

My approach is both intuitive and scientific. I begin by identifying the emotional effect I wish to evoke—calm, vitality, introspection, joy—and then use color theory, composition, and texture to activate that emotion in the viewer. I work primaril...

I earned my degree in Product Design from the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR), graduating in 1978. My academic journey was enriched by a cultural scholarship from ITCR and another from the National Theater of Costa Rica, which immersed me in the world of ballet, opera, and theater.

Beyond formal education, I have pursued an extensive, self-directed path of cultural exploration. I have visited major museums such as the Louvre in Paris, the Prado Museum in Madrid, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York multiple times, among many others, seeking a deeper understanding of global art traditions. My travels across Greece, Germany, Italy, South America, and China have been fundamental in expanding my artistic vision and enriching the emotional language of my work.

Throughout my career as a product designer working closely with interior designers and architects, I have not actively pursued public exhibitions. Most of my paintings have been created as bespoke commissions, designed specifically for individual spaces or private clients, blending seamlessly into environments curated with intention and care.

Because of this collaborative work, the need to exhibit publicly never arose — my art found its home directly in the spaces and lives of those who sought it. However, I am now embracing the opportunity to share my work with a wider audience, beyond the close circles of design professionals, aiming to connect with collectors and individuals who value art created with purpose, emotion, and authenticity.
