Ozzy Demir

My paintings begin with the ordinary - a face, an animal, a piece of bread, an object caught in the wrong light. I work in acrylics, drawn to subjects that seem simple until they aren't: a raven perched against a burning sky, two wrestlers locked in a grip that could be combat or embrace, a self-portrait glimpsed in a TV screen at night.
I'm interested in the tension between what something is and what it carries - the weight of faith, doubt, anger, and quiet. My work doesn't resolve that tension. It sits inside it, and tries to make something honest from it.
