Elea Durand

Self-taught contemporary artist deeply shaped by the Caribbean and overseas cultures I grew up in. The vivid colors and warmth of these territories strongly inspire my work.

I resumed painting after the Black Lives Matter movement, feeling a strong need to honor and represent people of color in their full dignity, beauty, and diversity.

My art focuses on portraiture, using mixed media such as oil paint,acrylic, alcohol-based markers and golden leaf on canvas, in a vibrant and expressive style. Every gaze I paint tells a story of presence, memory, and identity.

Although I was planning to study art after my high school graduation, my family oriented me towards another path. Yet, I never quitted my passion, painting and drawing here and there.
