Axel Vindenes

Axel Sverke Vindenes (b. 1986) is the frontman and vocalist of the legendary Bergen band Kakkmaddafakka. Since 2013, he has worked primarily with oil on canvas under the mentorship of Arvid Jarle Pettersen—professor, artist, and former principal of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Vindenes held his debut exhibition in August 2016 and has since become one of Norway’s best-selling painters, first among private buyers and now increasingly attracting the attention of collectors.

A proud patriot of his hometown Bergen, the famously rainy city in western Norway, where he continues to live and work when not touring. Vindenes often draws inspiration from its streets and iconic wooden houses. In recent years, however, his focus has expanded to capturing the wild beauty of Norway’s mountains and fjords.

With the band Kakkmaddafakka, Vindenes set out simply to make cool music. The aim was always to challenge pretension and create what he calls Gledenes—things that bring joy. “In the art world, as in design, music, and life in general, it’s all about being cool. But trying to be cool is, in itself, uncool. So how can one be cool? By doing cool things. You are what you do. That’s why I paint cool paintings and make cool music.”
