Edward Vanleyden

Inspired by Frank Auerbach, a British painter known for his intensely crafted impasto paintings, often of cityscapes and portraits. Oil paint allows for manipulation.
You can scrape off the paint, paint over it, and build up layers. A thick layer of paint gives the painting a tangible presence.
Like Auerbach, he doesn't strive to recreate visual appearances as faithfully as possible, but to capture the experience of seeing and feeling. Most paintings take months, or sometimes even longer, to complete, scraped off, and repainted countless times.
