Anne Selfe

I started drawing from a young age and found I could bring colour into my life and create my own world. whilst attending school in London my teacher felt I had a talent in Art and looked to gaining me some extra tuition by enrolling me into an after school class. This class was run by the Whitechapel Art gallery, it was 1957. My memories of London where I began my early years was a grey and depressed area with bombed sites that were our playgrounds but there was the friendliness of the local residents that was warm, after all it was the 1950's where life was just recovering after the war.

Use of different mediums in painting fascinated me but I had found that oil was my preference. Oil was the medium used at college, having always wanted to embark on a career in Art I had forsaken this for a career in Computing. Through the mid 70's to the 90's I brought up my family and where my job was paramount to provide for them too. It is only now that I am able to dedicate my time to my painting. I hope to bring the past and present of my experiences into my paintings.
