Fidel Nan

Born in 2001 in China, Fidel Nan creates from a deeply emotional space where memory, identity, and trauma intersect. His works often depict distorted figures, entangled limbs, and explosive colors. Rather than literal narratives, they function as emotional landscapes, attempts to process shame, fear, confusion, and repressed anger.

Growing up internalizing silence, obedience, and a fractured sense of self, he turned to painting as a way to give form to what could not be spoken. The hybrid creatures in his paintings—half human, half monstrous, fusing or dissolving into one another—embody both pain and transformation.

He works primarily with acrylic, soft pastel, and oil stick on wood or canvas, creating instinctively through layering, obsessive detail, and violent gestures. In his practice, color is never decorative but deeply emotional.

Through this visceral process, he returns to the chaos of his inner world, staying close to emotions once forced into hiding. His works do not provide answers but instead stand as raw expressions of states he is still learning to inhabit.
