Roberto Mateu (b. 1963, Uruguay) is a self-taught artist who approaches drawing as a form of resistance against the ephemeral nature of the digital age. Working from his studio in Costa Azul, Mateu utilizes high-density graphite and mixed media to create visceral studies of human anatomy.

His work focuses on the tension of physical connection—specifically through the language of hands—exploring themes of fragility, labor, and the unspoken distances between people.
