"The mystery of the inspiration for making art is the ongoing preoccupation and impetus for these works. Why make art? Where do the ideas come from? What is a successful work? I find these questions endlessly thought-provoking.
Many of my paintings are inspired by the Annunciation in Christianity - a female human, fertile biologically and spiritually, interacts with light, the divine energy that brings all things about, in an environment filled with creations (rugs, paintings, furniture) and surrounded by Nature. The woman is being inspired to create something, and is a creation herself, part of the natural world.
I do an underpainting in layers of ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, and transparent orange, and then layer glazes of local color over it, with accents in gold leaf."
