Jan Blencowe

Jan Blencowe was born in 1962 in Brooklyn,NY, and grew up on the south shore of Long Island. She has been drawing, painting and gardening for as long as she can remember.

Jan Blencowe paints the coastal Connecticut landscape en plein air, working outdoors on location, in all seasons of the year. The rocky coastline,beaches and salt marshes of Connecticut as well as the upland farms, fields and woods provides much of the inspiration for her work. Her large perennial gardens, which she designed and installed, also provide on going subject matter throughtout the changing seasons. Working mainly in oil paint bold brushwork, light and color come together and bring to the canvas an authentic and vital record of a time and place. Her work is most frequently described as "joyous" reflecting her deep love for all things green and growing.

Jan Blencowe attended Caldwell College in Caldwell NJ and graduated magna cum laude with a BFA. Early on she continued her studies with Ugo Giannini,and attended classes at the Summit Art Center in Summit NJ, and at the Guilford Art Center with Marc-Anthony Massaro. Most recently she has studied with Charles Sovek at the Lyme Art Association, Lyme CT and at the Rowayton Art Center, Rowayton CT. She is a signature member of the American Society of Landscape Painters a member of the American Impressionist Society and the Connecticut Plein Painters Society. She also holds elected membership in the Essex Art Association and the Madison Art Society, both in CT.
