"Imaginary Landscapes" is a new series of minimalistic paintings that stems from my life-long fascination with the cinema. As a self"avowed film geek, I have found many of the most profound and defining visual and aural moments of my life at the movies. These paintings begin with the cinematic experience as a jumping off point for my own imagination, but rather than being literal representations, they are distillations of color, shape and rhythm, evocations of virtual space. I treat this "virtual" cinematic space as a real, tangible environment from which I extract visual fragments to create new spaces for the mind to inhabit. The paintings may evoke a sense memory in the viewer, as though revisiting a place once dreamed and may provoke the question, Does a virtual memory operate in the same way as a "real" one or is there, in fact, any difference at all between the two?
