Macarena Jofré (b. 1986, Santiago, Chile) is a visual artist whose practice bridges painting, sculpture, and installation. She graduated with honors in Visual Arts from Universidad Finis Terrae and was awarded the Santander International Mobility Scholarship to pursue advanced courses at The Art Students League in New York.
Her current research investigates mining tailings and sediments from northern Chile, transforming them into sculptural paintings and refuges that resemble fictional ruins where the new appears ancient. This exploration expands beyond the Atacama, opening to other territories where ecology, memory, and materiality intersect.
She has exhibited internationally, with highlights including Corazones Verticales (solo exhibition, Galería NAC, Santiago, 2024), the London Art Biennale (UK, 2021), and Life of My Life (VitrinaLab Foundation, Miami, 2020). In May 2025, she will present a new site-specific refuge within the historic Capilla del Montecarmelo in Santiago, Chile, deepening her investigation of ruins, fragments, and sacred architectures.
