Rufus Krieger

My work centers on the male body as a charged site of projection, construction, and tension.

Across different series, I approach corporeality through two interconnected strategies. In some works, the body appears direct, exposed, and unapologetically present. In others, it is fragmented, interrupted, or destabilized — shifting from flesh to surface, from presence to image.

While the male body forms a central axis of my practice, I am equally interested in other structures of projection and rupture. In certain works, landscape and atmosphere become similarly charged fields — sites where stability dissolves and latent forces surface. Whether body or mountain, I explore moments in which apparent permanence gives way to transformation.

I am drawn to thresholds — where visibility becomes excessive, where form exceeds containment. When the body is no longer protected by metaphor, it confronts the viewer in its immediacy. At the same time, I question this exposure by isolating, tearing, or abstracting form.

The male figure in my work is neither idealized nor anonymized. It functions simultaneously as subject and object, autonomous and projected upon. Desire, commodification, vulnerability, and control coexist within the same frame. Ra...
