Pascale Oakley

My work is heavily influenced by how objects are depicted in film composition. Whilst keeping with the tradition of painting, I hope to portray everyday objects in a contemporary context.

My paintings portray the sinister tones of ambiguity and suspense. They are loaded with symbolism which creates a tense environment, projected through various versions of reality, confusing the viewer. Nostalgia plays an important role; these objects are evocative, specific entities suggestive of a space or time, ultimately leading the viewer to speculate its use or owner and questioning in which era it is set or whether it has a history.
