Shaun Mcintosh

Shaun McIntosh is a contemporary artist based in the Newcastle & Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. His creative practice is shaped by a deeply personal journey—after a decade-long hiatus from art, he returns with a renewed voice, informed by years spent navigating the complexities of his own identity and subsequent mental health whilst surrendering to a deep calling to support those around him facing similar challenges. His artistic and personal mission has been distilled and fortified by a growing awareness of the widespread nature of this mental health epidemic, and the unique role his own journey has led him to play within this broader, and now urgent conversation.

Artistic Evolution
McIntosh first came to prominence in his youth, through his bold and theatrical portraiture, creating intense and stylised representations that explored identity, emotion, and performance—often reflecting the masking behaviours he himself engaged in, with a desire to conceal the self imposed belief of a defective nature. Over time, as he wrestled with his inner world and the mental health struggles of those close to him, his work began to shift and reorient.
