Fanny L Sloan

Fanny L. Sloan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1945. Bohemian in heart and soul, she started drawing and painting at an early age. At the age of 14, she won second place in a locally sponsored street painting contest (Concurso de Manchas), and accepted a scholarship to an art school, Escuela de Arte Manuel Belgrano. This very first oil painting was done with a kitchen knife, borrowed from a friendly cafe. Having once seen Angelica Maraninchi, a famous Argentinian painter, work in her atelier with a knife, the young Ms. Sloan was inspired to follow suit, not realizing the great artist was using a pallette knife.

Fanny L. Sloans family came to the United States in 1963, settling in New York City. In 1986, after a deep personal tragedy, Ms. Sloan moved to Vermont to seek solace within nature. The native tranquility of Vermont's frozen lakes, mountains and small waterfalls overwhelmed her and she began to paint again with artistic advice from Arlene Saltzman, a member of the Visual Arts Committee at the Southern Vermont Artist Center.

Ms. Sloan won an award for an oil painting in a New York City Crafts Fair in August, 1992.

In July of 1993, Ms. Sloan participated in a juried exhibition at Mary Galleries of Westchester.

In September of 2003, Ms. Sloan participated in the Plein-Air Paint-Out Art Auction at The Rye Arts Center in Rye, New York.

Also, in September 2003, she exhibited her work in The Rye Arts Center Group Show.
In May/June 2006, Ms. Sloan was chosen to participate in the 2nd Annual Juried Show Art With Intent, honoring the creativity of adult artists, hosted at Andrus-On-Hudson Community of Elders, in Hasting-on-Hudson, New York.

In March 2007, her latest accomplishment was to be selected as the Latin artist to show her art during the Westchester Hispanic Women Leaders Hall of Fame Awards ceremony and dinner. This was her first solo show which was attended by various local politicians, judges, and prominent figures in Southern Westchester, New York.

In September/October 2007, Fanny exhibited eight paintings in the Art Gallery at St. Cabrini, at the St. Cabrini Nursing Home Building in Dobbs Ferry, New York.,
