Barbara Parker

A resident of Maryland's Eastern Shore for more than thirty years, I live on a farm with my husband and my animals where I get a chance to revel in solitude and beauty. Originally from the Seattle area, I was drawn to this region by its dissimilarity to the severe lines of trees that, while beautiful, make the long view difficult to obtain.
Now I have the opportunity to look out across fields and ponds and to wonder at the color of the rising and setting sun with all its reflections and refractions. Color transports me. I am surrounded by color. I am grateful.
I am happiest in the studio. Facing a blank canvas that is a field of opportunity and potential, I try to empty myself likewise, holding fast to the belief that there is a creative force that will come through me and land on that clean surface in great splashes of color. I feel I am a conduit for a force beyond me and yet of me - when I am uncertain, I use the mantra, "You con-du-it." I know, it sounds a little corny, but it works, and I'm not one to argue with what works.
