Born in 1948 in Salisbury, England.Ashley lives and works in Paris. His paintings - composed of cement and dust, tinted with tea and a limited number of pigments, on canvas - portray his concern for the natural world and the deteriorating relationship between Man and nature. The fragile thread that binds the one to the other is woven into his paintings by means of an ancient text in Gaelic, the Duan Amhairghine. Ashley writes into his paintings a symbolic language reminiscent of the unspoken poems inscribed in earth and stone across the chalk downs of his native Wiltshire.
