Halina Trela

I am polish artist and I create paintings, drawings and installations. I graduated in painting(minor in drawing) from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw under professors Piotr Blazejewski and Przemyslaw Pintal.

My work is about humanity. Long fascinated with the human face, I focuse solely on portraits. To make them more compelling, I use large formats that overwhelm the viewer. I directly reference the photographic material found in the depths of the global network. On the one hand, the images of obscure people acquire homeless status, their anonymity is emphasized. On the other, as a public good, they become universal and timeless. I try to speak about a kind of recycling of images which, taken out of the context of previous collections, gain a new identity. I describe my peregrinations as "˜a search for unmasked people' - people who no longer have the ability or need to hide themselves behind a façade or pose. It is no accident that they are old, close to crossing he line between life and death. Their faces, frozen in grimaces
expressing absence, or rather a presence that transcends the world seen through half-closed. eyes.
