Robert Szczerbowski

Robert Szczerbowski (read: Scherbowski) Conceptual artist, painter, writer, born 1959, lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
He began his artistic career as a writer, engaging in postmodern prose. In the mid-1990s, he abandoned language, and since then his work has focused exclusively on the visual domain.
Szczerbowski creates artistic artifacts that straddle the boundaries of reality and fiction. In his work, which spans various media, Szczerbowski focuses on the cultural dimensions of the digital age, particularly on human identity and spirituality in the face of artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

The exhibition titled "I AM AI" (2026) presents iconic objects where sacret texts meet machine code and the digital world of AI. Szczerbowski blurring lines between organic and digital, real and simulation. Questioning identity and transcendence. The exhibition "I AM AI" does not feature works generated using artificial intelligence.

The series of grayscale portraits titled "ID" was created between 2002 and 2020. Artis references ubiquitous facial recognition technology, developing the motif of the pixelated image that first appeared in his Self-Portrait from 2002. The cycle strongly addresses the theme of identity.

Robert Szczerbowski studied philosophy in Poznań and Warsaw, but eventually abandoned it for the sake of creativity.
