Patrick Glover spent his childhood in the rural Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. He received a four-year, full tuition scholarship to the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City where he earned his BFA in 1987. He remained in New York City for nearly twenty years, working as a freelance illustrator, designer, muralist and decorative painter while continuing to pursue his fine art interests. He currently lives and works in Charlotte, NCI choose to work with imagery that is mostly taken for granted: imagery that has a predictable appearance, standardized use, meaning and/or social context. In this highway series, the interaction of a simple natural element with man made surfaces and objects transforms that which is familiar into something otherworldly, bizarre and disorienting. A commonly experienced moment of perceptual ambiguity becomes a way to suggest questions concerning the role that perception itself plays in the illusion of certainty.
