nspired mostly by the German Expressionist movement, I am drawn to the expression of humanity. I always photograph my models to try and capture a moment in their expression that moves me. They may not even know it's happening. Facial expression of human truth is very subtle and I look for those moments and aim to re-create them on canvas. Each canvas should tell it's own story. Almost like 'character painting.'
My favorite artists to name a few are Egon Schiele, Willem de Kooning, Francis Bacon, Diego Velasquez, Francisco Goya, Frida Kahloand Daniel Sprick.
I combine figuration with expressionism and contemporary realism to create works that aim to arrest the viewer but in a recognizable way. I paint to evoke the essence of the most human emotions whose origin and outcome are equally unknown.
