I was brought up in London but have lived in Cornwall on and off since I was sixteen. I eventually found my way to art school and then trained as an Art Therapist in the 80's. I returned to painting a few years ago and have been working out of a tiny shed, trying to fit a creative life around work and family life. Most of my work seems to be about trying to find order amidst chaos, whether that be in a landscape or within an interior.. I am fascinated by certain places in Cornwall. Disused tin mines, abandoned quarries, and seascapes with junk in the foreground. I find it difficult to really feel perfectly beautiful scenery but when it is juxtapositioned with decay and disorder it seems much more interesting and accessible. I have never been interested in perfection or obviously attractive subjects, the satisfaction is trying to make the mundane or discarded beautiful. My work is often abstract as I enjoy the tussle with form and shape and trying to make them fit together. I am fascinated with colour after a long period of working mostly in black and white. I don't show my work anywhere and paint because it makes me feel more myself than anything else. I hope you enjoy looking at my work.
