Beverly Farley

I have sketched and painted since childhood. As an artist you can create what you want, which is almost childlike fun. I begin by adding texture to the support, splash several colours and coats of paint on the canvas, then let the paint inform me what the subject will become. After looking at the canvas, turning it around and seeing it from different angles, I adjust values, paint in negative spaces, and then see what happens next. Usually the finished piece is unexpected, a surprise, and this is what I love about doing what I do. I hope that these emotions of joy are shared by the viewer and that they find their own story in that particular piece.I work in oils, acrylics, charcoal, watercolours, and oil sticks. Private collectors as well as corporations in Quebec, Europe, Alberta, and the U.S.A. have purchased my work.

I am mostly self-taught. Have taken courses and worked with many teachers.
