Doina Domenica Cojocaru-Thanasiadis is a visual artist and researcher whose practice explores themes of migration, displacement, memory, identity, and belonging. She holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the National University of Arts in Bucharest.
Drawing on media archives, family histories, documentary photography, and personal narratives, her work investigates how images shape our understanding of borders, conflict, and human mobility. Through photography, installation, video, sculpture, and archival materials, she examines the relationship between personal experience and broader social and political realities.
Her artistic practice emerged alongside her doctoral research on the representation of refugees and displaced communities, focusing on the ethical challenges of depicting the suffering of others. By recontextualising fragments of documentary imagery, historical records, and lived experiences, she creates works that navigate the space between memory and history, fiction and reality, the personal and the collective.
