Painting is the point of origin.
Photography functions as a fragment of painting: it destabilizes the image, transforms the surface into landscape, and immerses perception within matter.
Painting is not observed; it is inhabited.
Born in 1994 in Extremadura, Carmen Carbonell lives and works in Paris, France.
Her practice is situated at the intersection of painting, matter, and processes of transformation. Her work explores states of perception in which color and texture function as activators of the invisible, articulating a relationship between the physical and the emotional through the pictorial surface.
Painting has been a vital necessity since childhood. A self-taught artist and desalination engineer, she incorporates acrylic and filtration materials into her process, translating technical logics and water-treatment systems into the language of painting. This dialogue between engineering and artistic practice generates surfaces where the organic and the structured coexist in dynamic tension. She also uses macro photography as a tool for fragmentation and reinterpretation, entering the pictorial matter to reveal new scales of perception and visual depth.
Her work has been presented in Paris and Madrid and is held in private collections across Europe. She has participated in exhibitions including Art Capital at the Grand Palais and the Salon d’Automne at the Place de la Concorde.
