Personal / Private
Our long-lasting and complex familiarisation with various kinds of images, ranging
from photography, video or hologram, has worn out our capability to respond and maintain
our eagerness to make sense of their inner connections and complex details; as a result, a sort
of mistrust in our very capacity of decoding images has built in.
To be more precise, rather than visual acuity, to see is a performance stemming
from the accomplishment of concord. This confers a particular meaning to the recognition of
data or elements of visual reality, blends them in with memory fragments, then interprets the
sequence, and relates to all of these in a personal way.
A complex process underlies our personal manner of cutting up from the vision the
elements, the details, the relations or the images that engage our interest. This individual,
personal ability to relate to, detach from, understand and interpret images has enabled me
to identify and question aspects of pictural structure and expression of a space I have called
personal/ private.
