I’ve always had a scientific-oriented mind. Painting, ⟨and creating, more generally⟩ provides both an outlet for me to express my scientific side and a method of experimentation.
I construct vast landscapes to delve into that feature grand themes including ∋ ⟨fundamental dualities | knowledge horizons | natural and artificial juxtapositions ⟨as well their superpositions⟩ | and the illusion of dimensional scale |. A compulsion to explore leads me to new ⟨places⟩⟨i⟩ to observe | condense information | make intuitive | and conceptualize new horizons⟩.
Being from Albuquerque, I naturally draw inspiration from our mind-blowing skies that contrast so vividly with the raw, Earth tones of our environment – all of which is part of the Σ⟨the decaying infrastructure of thin stucco⟩ + ⟨the ever-present dust⟩ ⋅ ⟨our diverse culture that shapes it⟩. From this source material I create worlds flirting with the edge of reality. Believable places, but with an unsettling undertone of impossibility that invites the viewer to analyze . . . | indefinitely |²
Self taught through experimentation.
