Timi Kakandar is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, and collage, driven by a fascination with the human form as a vessel of identity, resilience, and cultural memory. His work confronts the challenges and joys of living within the African space, weaving social and political narratives into vibrant visual language. Known for his bold use of raw color and gestural line, Kakandar creates compositions that pulse with energy and presence, inviting viewers into dialogues of heritage, sovereignty, and empowerment. His figures, often rendered with dramatic hues reminiscent of Fauvism, embody both vulnerability and strength, transforming personal and collective experience into striking contemporary African art.
Kakandar began his creative career soon after graduating from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria in 1999.
The repertoire of Timi is widely collected worldwide. In more than two decades of studio practice, he has held four solo exhibitions and more than thirty group exhibitions within and beyond Nigerian borders.
